These terms cover your use of redactpdffree.com and the tools on it. Using the site means you accept them. They are short because the site is simple: it takes no payment, holds no accounts, and never receives your files.
What you get
Free use of the redaction, flatten and metadata tools, with no account, no daily limit and no watermark. There is no paid tier and nothing is held back. The site is paid for by advertising, which is described in the privacy policy.
Your documents remain entirely yours. Nothing here claims any right over a file you open, which is straightforward to honor given that no file is ever transmitted to us.
Check your own output before you rely on it
This is the term that matters most on this site, and it is not boilerplate.
The redaction tool makes a specific claim: that text under a mark is removed from the exported document rather than hidden behind a black box. That claim is the reason to use it. But no tool can be trusted on the strength of its own description, including this one, and a redaction that failed looks exactly like a redaction that worked. This is why the verify step exists after every export — it reads the finished file back off your device and lets you search what can still be extracted from it.
So the responsibility is yours, and it is a real one. Before you send, file, publish or otherwise rely on a document produced here, open it and check that what you removed is actually gone. If the document is going into a legal filing, a regulatory submission, a disclosure process or anything else where a mistake has consequences, check it more carefully than that, and do not treat the absence of a warning from this site as assurance about your particular file. We cannot see your document, so we cannot know anything about it.
No warranty
The site and its tools are provided as-is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. That includes any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or accuracy of output. PDF is a large and irregular format and real documents break tools in ways nobody predicted; this one is no exception, and some documents will not process correctly.
Known limits are described on the about page rather than buried here. Encrypted files are refused. XFA forms cannot be flattened. Digital signatures do not survive an export. Metadata inside embedded images is not cleared. A redacted page loses its text layer entirely, not only the part you covered.
Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator of this site is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of it, including any consequence of a document you exported. Your original file is never modified by this site, so keeping a copy of it is both possible and advisable.
Acceptable use
Do not use these tools to do something illegal, and do not use them to interfere with the site or with other people using it. Nothing here is intended to help anyone recover content from a document they are not entitled to read, and the pages on this site deliberately stop short of explaining how that would be done.
Availability
No uptime is promised. The site may change, move or stop existing. Since everything runs in your browser, a page you already have open keeps working even if the site does not, which is a happy accident of the architecture rather than a commitment.
Changes
These terms may change, and the date at the top will change with them. Continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the revised version.
